Unglued: Making Wise Choices In the Midst of Raw Emotions
By Lysa TerKeurst
Anyone who has struggles with holding in or appropriately letting out their emotions would benefit from this book. Lysa has a wonderful way of normalizing difficult emotions women struggle to talk about: anxiety, depression, feeling overwhelmed and unappreciated, disappointment, anger and resentment, and frustration just to name a few. We often talk about our circumstances but not the painful emotions underneath the surface that are boiling and waiting to seep out at any moment.
Lysa not only normalizes our feelings but gives practical and helpful ways to control them and work through them, rather than stuff or explode. My favorite part of this book is I literally laughed out loud the first several pages. I told my best friend, “I think she has been following me around to get examples for this book!” She makes herself sound so relateable, so when you read the book you don’t feel judged or shame, something a lot of us experience as women when dealing with our emotions. The book makes us laugh at ourselves yet also helps us realize the reality of what our negative emotions can create in our life.
Lysa addresses the 4 most common types of “Unglued” including:
1. The Exploder who shames herself
2. The Exploder who blames others
3. The Stuffer who builds barriers
4. The Stuffer who collects retaliation rocks
Then she addresses practice tips for each one.
As a Therapist, coming from a psychological and spiritual perspective, she could not be more right on! A must read for anyone struggling with their emotions. Thank you, Lysa, for an awesome book needed by so many!
