We recently got a puppy. It has been so much fun watching this little guy grow up literally in just a few months. He is from a rescue so he definitely was in need of some training. He’s friendly but at times has a trauma trigger and will snip at one of us. He is so excited to meet new friends that he enjoys jumping up and almost knocking them over to show them how thrilled he is. He thinks he’s still 10 pounds but he is weighing in at 50.

It is so difficult and frustrating to walk him. He’s just full of energy and wants to chase after everything! So our “dog whisperer” as I call her, has been working with us on how to walk him so he won’t walk us instead. We use treats for positive reinforcement (I like that) but it was still very tedious and difficult in the beginning. One day I was so over it. It was a long day at work and I was tired. I just knew he could sense it and was using even more energy to pull me. I finally stopped and looked at him and said, “Stop, Reset.” Just that brief pause, me looking at him and saying that, and then us starting over was so helpful. I started using that every time.

A little later, I was watching my 12 year old son try to do too many things at once while also telling a story. He wasn’t making sense and was about to drop everything. I said, “Jojo. Stop. Reset! Take a deep breath and notice what you are doing.” I realized in that moment how much I actually use “Reset” in life. I started thinking about how “I” even needed a reset. With a pandemic going on for 4 months (at the time), being stuck at home all summer, and having such a challenge meeting all the mental health needs going on in not only my clients but my friends and family too…….yeah it was time for a reset for me!

As my mind started thinking of what that would look like for me, it got me thinking about work. How we all need a reset sometimes. That is when I came up with “Reset with Natalie” for my new website. It really is what so many of us need, especially right now in the midst of all this pandemic chaos.

Imagine my surprise when I sat down to write it out and couldn’t believe that the 1st letter of the modalities I use actually spell out the word Reset. I realized then it was a God thing. Reset with Nataiie had been created.

Sometimes it just makes sense to pause, reflect, and stop the chaos. We need to hit the reset and move forward, But sometimes we get stuck in a rut and can’t figure out a way to get out. That’s when a therapist can really help. It can be hard to be vulnerable to someone new. But that risk outweighs the benefit you can receive from a qualified, trained professional who can be objective and show compassion and empathy.

If you feel ready for a Reset today, reach out and contact me. We can have an initial appointment to see where you want to start. Thank you for listening today. By the way, we are 4 weeks into our training and Barkley is walking like a little show dog. I am so proud of him. Our walks are so enjoyable now. He thinks he is still walking me but that’s fine. I know better!
