Keep a check on your weeds

We have an area in our yard that we don’t see very frequently. Last year one of our little boys played in it constantly so we kept it up very well. This year he is playing in a different area of our yard. The other day we went back to the old area and realized it was being overtaken by weeds- massive ones!

What’s the common denominator?

Usually when I drive, I am in a hurry. But a couple of years ago I read a book about patience (The Power of Patience- a GREAT book by the way!) and I started driving a little differently. I try to take my time along with taking some deep breaths. But the other day I was so frustrated! I was in a hurry and I noticed EVERYONE was driving slow! What was going on? What was wrong with everyone else??

God Winks!

I LOVE God winks- you know..those moments where you just know God is letting you know He is there, taking care of you, or even just thinking about you. Amazing! The almighty creator of the universe is interested in US knowing HE is thinking about us. Really cool, don’t ya think?

I love my iPhone

I have had a Blackberry for 6 years- I LOVED it! During my workweek I was lost without it. I was like my own little secretary that did everything perfectly, exactly the way I wanted “her” to!! My husband, however, LOVES and I really mean LOVES his iphone. He is on his 3rd one! I couldn’t get it- what is the big deal? He finally convinced me I needed to have one of his that he no longer needed.

The best is yet to come.

Ok- so I got a lot from this wedding last week!! I have another blog about it- The priest asked us to hold hands with the person we were next to if we were in a relationship with them.  He said, “Now I ask you are your best years behind your or in front of you?” What a great question.  From where I sit, in my profession, I so often hear about the best years of a couples marriage being when they first met.

Save the environment!!

I attended a wedding on Saturday for someone who my husband works with.  I had to share part of the message that the Priest shared with us.  He talked to the congregation about the importance of the environment we provide for the new couple in order to foster growth in their marriage. Wow! I had never thought about that.

Do you hear what I hear?

I am amazed as I work with couples in marriage counseling how our perceptions can be so different than reality. I often hear one partner say something to their partner that their partner hears COMPLETELY different than what was said. What we hear comes with so much baggage. What is said goes thru a filter, based on our experiences, and is translated in our minds to mean something that is sometimes different than what was said.  I see it often and it happens often.

Have you watered your plants lately?

I use the analogy a lot with couples in marriage counseling that a relationship is like a plant.  If you water it, give it proper lighting (the amount or type the plant actually needs), and fertilize it as needed, it will stay healthy and give you little to no trouble.  However, i?f you neglect the plant and expect it to take care of itself and do nothing to nurture it, it will die

Do your mirrors needs adjusting?

Do you ever feel so overwhelmed that you notice things but they go to the back of your mind to fix later? One day when I was driving to work, I was particularly rushed and little stressed out. I kept looking in my rear-view mirror and putting in the back of my mind that I needed to fix that.

Relax and let me drive!

One day this past winter I was taking my 4 year-old to preschool.  We both enjoy this time together, he mostly enjoys it because he can talk and get me all to himself with little to no distractions, except traffic.  Personally, I had been struggling with some things that were causing me a lot of anxiety and worry.I kept trying to control things and figure them out on my own, forgetting most of the time that God had my back.
